Sokolli, Mehmed Pascha, türkischer Großwesir (seit 1565), * Sokol (Bosnien) 1505, ✝ (ermordet) Konstantinopel 11./12. 10. 1579; wurde 1546 Kapudan Pascha, später Beglerbeg von Rumelien; seit 1562 Ȋ mit einer Tochter Selims II., dessen Thronbesteigung er 1566 sicherte. Sokollu erwarb (u. a. durch ein ausgeklügeltes System des Ämterverkaufs) großen Reichtum; er überwand die Niederlage von Lepanto durch den raschen Wiederaufbau einer osmanischen Flotte (1571/72).
